Clyde approves $20,000 purchase of two parcels at 719 Ames Street for housing strategy

Clyde City Council on March 18 adopted Resolution 2025-28 authorizing the city manager to purchase two parcels known collectively as 719 Ames Street from Nancy L. Dotson for a total purchase price of $20,000, with funds appropriated from the General Fund.

The resolution describes the parcels’ parcel numbers and acreage and authorizes the city manager and solicitor to negotiate terms, earnest money and execute documents necessary to complete the transfer. Councilman Scott Black moved the measure and Councilman Chris Shea seconded it; the vote was 5-0 in favor.

City staff said the city has been maintaining the property for years and that the lots are buildable. Staff described a nuisance shed on the site and said remediation costs are expected to be limited to shed removal and concrete removal. Staff also described the purchase as part of a strategic acquisition plan tied to potential Welcome Home Ohio grant submissions and Habitat-type builds; staff said Welcome Home Ohio can reimburse property acquisition and reasonable remediation costs.

Councilman Black said the purchase fits the city’s strategic plan to increase housing availability and that the city has been coordinating with local partners to prepare a grant application. Staff indicated the transaction is already agreed upon, contingent on council approval, and that the city has engaged partners to support future builds.
