The board elected its chair and vice chair in separate ballots: the chair nomination for Supervisor Hunter (as nominated during the meeting) carried by voice/ballot; Jim Meyer was elected vice chairman by a recorded vote of 9–8 in the secret-ballot tally presented to the board (8 votes for Dave Willingham, 9 votes for Jim Meyer).
Personnel and classification votes: The board approved reclassifying a finance position. County finance staff described hiring a Finance Accountant 1 in September 2024 to handle accounts payable and reported the incumbent has taken on payroll and other duties consistent with a Finance Accountant 2. Finance and personnel committees recommended reclassification to step 1 of the Finance Accountant 2 wage scale ($22.14 per hour) retroactive to Feb. 16, 2025; supervisors approved the reclassification by roll call (17 yes). The board also approved a revised job description for the captain position in the sheriff’s department that removed a county‑residency requirement, allowed new hires one year to obtain jailer certification, and combined degree/experience qualifications to widen the candidate pool (approved by majority vote, 17 yes).
Chamber funding and budget amendment: The board approved a resolution to designate $18,000 from the county mining reuse fund to the Rusk Area Chamber of Commerce and approved the associated 2025 economic development budget transfer. Committee members reported the mining fund’s unaudited balance at the end of fiscal year 2024 was just under $1.2 million. The action passed by the required majority/two‑thirds vote as recorded (17 yes).
Judicial security policy: Supervisors adopted a judicial security policy and procedures to implement Wisconsin 2023 Act 235 (often referred to in the meeting record as guidance for protecting certain personal information of judicial officers). Staff said the law requires counties to remove specified personal information from public access on written request and to develop department-level procedures; the board approved the county policy by majority vote (17 yes).
Recorded vote on event scheduling: As reported in a separate article, the board rejected a July 26 booking for Bulls, Barrels and Bands (6–11) and later voted to allow the event only if scheduled at least 30 days after the county fair (16–1). The latter vote was a roll call with 16 votes recorded in favor and one opposed.
What the votes mean: Several supervisors and committees will prepare follow-up items: the Justice, Youth and Extension committee was asked to develop a scheduling policy for fairgrounds users, and county staff were instructed to coordinate revised applications and to notify event organizers of the board’s date condition. Personnel and finance offices will implement the approved reclassification and job-description changes and reflect the chamber funding transfer in the 2025 budget.
