Council approves first readings of hazard-mitigation resolution and two assessment ordinances

Brookville City Council approved three first readings at the meeting: a resolution to continue local participation in the Montgomery County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and two ordinances establishing assessments.

Resolution 25‑01, “a resolution to continue participation in a multi‑jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan in conjunction with the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management,” was read and advanced on a unanimous voice vote.

Council members also advanced two ordinances on first reading: Ordinance 2025‑03, “an ordinance levying assessments for delinquent utility bills for certain properties in the City of Brookville, Ohio,” and Ordinance 2025‑04, “an ordinance levying assessments for the cutting and removal of weeds, vines, grass, and/or other vegetation during the year 2024 for certain properties in the City of Brookville, Ohio.” Both ordinances advanced on unanimous voice votes.

The meeting record shows the council acted by voice vote; the roll call earlier in the meeting recorded the following members present: Mayor Lettner; Vice Mayor Zindler; Member Crane; Member Fowler; Member Piper; Member Schreier; Member Wilder. No recorded nay votes or abstentions were announced during the first-reading actions.

City staff indicated notices to property owners had been sent in advance for the assessment ordinances. Finance Director Michelle Brent noted the city places assessments on property tax bills and reminded the public that unpaid utility bills remain tied to the property, which can result in county assessments if left unpaid.

No further substantive debate on the ordinances was recorded at the meeting; council will consider subsequent readings in future sessions as required by city procedure.
