Brookville Police Chief Doug Durham told the council the department will host a regional stop-stick instructor course at the fire station and will purchase stop sticks for cruisers across participating departments.
Durham said the training will certify instructors, after which stop sticks will be deployed from patrol vehicles to help end vehicle pursuits. He asked the council’s concurrence to temporarily close a short section of Market Street (the new section between the firehouse exit and the ambulances) for about an hour during the training demonstration. Durham said 13 departments would attend the course.
Councilors raised no objections on the record. Durham said the department will notify the public via social media about the temporary closure; no longer-term operational changes were adopted at the meeting.
