Fife previews spring events; council raises amplified-sound and field-access concerns at Dhaka Park

Recreation Manager Tim Anderson outlined the city’s spring and summer events to the Fife City Council on April 8 and provided details on dates, sponsors and ticketing for several signature programs.
Events: Anderson said the spring festival and egg hunt is set for April 19 (doors 9:30 a.m., egg hunt 10:05 a.m.), with live music by the Memphis Bells, 11 vendors at the time of the presentation plus two food trucks, face painting, a bounce house and carnival games. He identified the Poodle Dog as a main sponsor and said Pierce Transit and the Lions Club were supporting other events.
Parks Appreciation Day and Arbor Day: Parks Appreciation Day is scheduled for April 26 at 5 Acre Park (9 a.m.–noon) with weed pulling, restroom painting, bark spreading, tree planting and a hot-dog lunch. Arbor Day proclamations were read by Mayor Kim Roscoe.
Other events: Anderson previewed a Fountain Memorial name-reveal on June 5 and a ticketed, 21-and-over “Bridal in Fife” event on June 7 (tickets $25) with bingo, prizes and a cash bar. The department will host a splash-course pool challenge on June 14 with two sessions; the swim event was listed at $15.50 and routinely sells out, Anderson said.
Noise and field-use concerns: Later in the meeting Mayor Kim Roscoe relayed a resident complaint about amplified music coming from the Westfields at Dhaka Park and said staff would review rules and possible clarifying language. Roscoe noted existing park rules already require prior written approval for amplified sound and said she would seek language emphasizing that volume be “kept at a reasonable level to avoid disturbing other users.” She also encouraged residents to review the city’s parks rules and the municipal noise ordinance before filing complaints so staff and neighbors have a shared baseline.
Council comments: Councilmember Fagundes and Councilmember Wolfram described local frustration with outside groups renting fields and improper conduct, including urination in bushes and smoking. Wolfram asked that renters be reminded of park rules and suggested more active enforcement; other council members proposed looking at enforcement options, greater signage and coordination with youth sports groups to reduce conflicts during peak rental periods.
What’s next: staff said they will examine current rental procedures and enforcement options, provide additional clarity to renters about prohibited behaviors, and follow up with the council about potential changes to park rules or enforcement resources.
