Council continues Maywood Terrace nuisance inquiry after city solicitor cites possible eviction action

The City Council received a communication on April 1 from the city solicitor advising that the owner of Maywood Terrace may commence eviction proceedings if current tenants do not vacate the property by April 30. The solicitor recommended the council continue a pending nuisance determination to the May 6 meeting to allow time for those actions.
Councilors voted to receive the solicitor’s memo, continue the public hearing to May 6, and request that Building Commissioner Thomas C. Quinn drive by Maywood Terrace to confirm whether the property is being maintained as represented by the owner. The council also voted to ask the property owner, identified in council discussion as Deborah McLaughlin, to appear before the council on May 6 if the actions identified in the solicitor’s memo have not been completed.
The solicitor’s letter read in part: "If the current tenants of the property do not vacate the premises by April 30, the owner for Maywood Terrace will be commencing eviction proceedings and provide this office with evidence of the same." Councilors said they hoped the process would be resolved quickly for neighbors’ sake but preserved the council’s oversight role by continuing the matter to the May 6 meeting.
