Council holds public hearing on request to rename a street for Deputy Dominic Collada

The Edgewood City Council opened and closed a public hearing on March 11 for AB 25-057, a petition to rename a stretch of 104th Avenue East and 202nd Street East adjacent to City Hall as Collada Way in honor of Deputy Dominic Collada.
Jeremy Metzler, a city staff member, briefed the council and public that the request met the city’s street renaming policy requirements under municipal code chapter 12.22 and Ordinance 24-0667. Metzler said the application included majority support from affected property owners and that notice was provided to the owners at least 20 days before potential council action. Metzler told the council the item “satisfies the criteria as an individual who has contributed outstanding civic service to the city.”
The hearing drew brief public comment in support. Ryan Erickson told the council he appreciated efforts to honor Deputy Collada, saying he had “the finest spirit and finest heart that I’ve met to this point in my life.” Henry Dorn, who lives near Edgewood Church of Joy, said he had participated in the procession honoring the fallen officer and voiced support for the designation.
Metzler and the mayor explained that the council would receive public input at the hearing and then hold further discussion at a study session next week before potential formal action at a subsequent regular meeting. No council vote or ordinance adoption occurred March 11.
Because the item is being processed under the city’s street-naming rules, staff will return to council with any additional information required by code before council deliberation and final action. The public hearing was opened at 7:07 p.m. and closed at 7:11 p.m.
