Council votes to remove car-tab proposal AB 25-0769 from tonight’s agenda

The Edgewood City Council voted unanimously on March 11 to remove agenda bill AB 25-0769, a proposal related to car-tab fees, from that night’s regular meeting agenda.

Council Member Maria Ramirez moved to remove AB 25-0769, saying the council had not had “sufficient time to discuss this nor have we had an opportunity for the public to provide us feedback.” Council Member Ryan Pasarowski seconded the motion. Deputy Mayor Toman, Pasarowski, Ramirez, Council Member Keith, Council Member West, Council Member Buckley and Council Member Southard all voted yes on a roll call; the motion carried.

The removal was treated as a procedural motion that required a two-thirds vote to suspend council rules. Mayor Olsen confirmed the motion carried after the roll call. No council debate on the substance of the car-tab proposal occurred during the meeting after the item was pulled; the mayor moved the agenda on to a scheduled public hearing.

Council members and staff discussed scheduling for further consideration. Council Member Keith asked whether staff had prepared an exemption table for possible carve-outs tied to the car-tab proposal; staff indicated the item will be discussed later but said it may be postponed to a budget retreat instead of the next study session. A staff member said the budget retreat is planned for April 26 and that the council has not yet set a date to replace the item on a future agenda.

The motion and unanimous roll call removed the item from the evening’s regular agenda; the council made no decision on the merits of AB 25-0769 and gave no policy direction that night beyond instructions to schedule further discussion.

Council members and staff said the car-tab item will return for additional review and public input, but no new date or final action was taken at the March 11 meeting.
