Germantown council highlights downtown events, hires event coordinator and notes new businesses

Council Member Kim told the council the city has hired Amanda Smith as the downtown event coordinator; Smith organized a December promotion and is leading a new "Galentine's Day" event scheduled for Feb. 13 from 4 to 9 p.m. "She did the Germantown jingle in December, which everybody, business owners really enjoyed," Council Member Kim said. The Galentine's Day program will include vendor pop-ups, a library craft, bingo, photo booths, specialty retail promotions and comedy at a ticketed performance.
The agenda item lists participating downtown businesses and offerings: First National Bank of Germantown will host local vendors inside its lobby; the Germantown Library will run a five-minute craft from 4 to 8 p.m.; Alleyway Cafe will host Galentine's bingo; Dipsticks Sweet Shop will run a candy-guessing contest; JU Fitness Loft, Loom Training Center, New View Nutrition, Harvest Moon Collections, Heady & Company, Sweet Rivers on Main, Milk and Honey (bingo with wine tasting), the Florentine (dinner and live music) and Farmer in the Deli all were named as participating merchants in the transcript listing. The council member also said a local comedian lineup will perform at a downtown venue; tickets were noted as $10 per person.
Council Member Kim said developers and the city have worked with Edgarmont Development on downtown improvements and that new restaurants are moving in, citing a forthcoming Mexican restaurant labeled Las Margaritas and a wine bar called the Green Heron. City staff previously told council they will consider two new liquor-permit applications that were included in the consent agenda (Parkside Pizza and Las Margaritas); staff reported no issues with those permits.
The council member invitation to the community was informational; no council votes were taken on the events or business openings at the Feb. 3 meeting. The city’s economic-development staff and the new downtown event coordinator are listed as the contacts for future programming and merchant coordination.
