Norwalk posts draft tree master plan and schedules public presentations and Arbor Day events

Norwalk City officials said the tree master plan is now in draft and will be posted publicly with 2–3 presentations and community workshops, including one planned at Norwalk Library.
"The tree master plan is officially in the draft phase, and it will become publicly available over the next few weeks," Peter, committee member, said. He asked committee members to help publicize the draft and participate in planned presentations and virtual options.
Staff said the plan process began in 2023 with an inventory and that the consultant, Planet Geo, used the TreePlotter inventory software to produce data and maps. "It started 2023 with the inventory, and now, over the last year, they've been working on the actual plan itself," Peter said, adding that the consultant made the results "digestible for all different stakeholders within the community and within the city."
Officials announced Arbor Day activities tied to the plan and outreach. Staff said the Arbor Day celebration will be coordinated with Cranbury (Cranberry) Elementary School and that the city will hold an Arbor Day cleanup event on Wednesday, April 23, the week of Arbor Day. "We're looking to do another section right now. Rich has kind of suggested another section of the NRVT that we hadn't gotten to previously," Peter said, noting logistics for staging tree companies and minimizing traffic impacts.
Staff asked committee members and volunteers to help organize the Arbor Day cleanup and the school celebration. The group also discussed follow-up site maintenance, warranty replacements under prior contracts, and coordination with TMP on trail-edge plantings.
The committee did not take formal votes on the master plan or event dates during the meeting; staff will publish the draft on the city's website and circulate dates for public workshops.
