The director told board members the lead inspection work is mandatory and that staffing shortfalls would force the department to prioritize among mandatory duties and discretionary services.
Council members asked about the impact if requested positions are not funded; staff said they explained mandates and liability concerns and that the recommended city budget will be released next month. The department asked the board to stay engaged and may request board support during budget deliberations.
No formal action was taken by the Board at the Jan. 28 meeting; staff said they will update the board as the city budget process proceeds.
