Committee members reported on a recent Policy & Advocacy committee meeting that focused on mapping statewide alliances and identifying organizations whose policy work aligns with the commission’s priorities. Committee leaders created a shared Google document listing alliances addressing domestic violence, LGBTQ issues, immigration and abuse-related matters so the commission can follow the groups’ policy initiatives and consider supporting or partnering on relevant items.
The committee noted contributions from Sharon and Emma in preparing the document. Members discussed reaching out to alliance leaders to review active policy proposals and determine where the commission could lend support. The chair asked committee members to track follow-up contacts and to summarize any requests the alliances make for support.
Commissioners also discussed inviting Melvette Hill, executive director of the Connecticut Commission for Women, Children and Families, to a future meeting. The transcript records that Hill expressed interest in meeting with the commission and sharing that state commission’s priorities; committee members agreed to coordinate a date and to discuss that visit in a smaller follow-up meeting.
No formal votes were recorded on policy endorsements during the meeting. The committee agreed to continue outreach, keep written records of contact attempts, and report progress at the next full meeting.
