Since the RFP closed, two parties (described in the meeting as artists or groups with food-service experience) have contacted the library and expressed interest in operating the cafe.
Geraldo Williams reported the RFP closed on Jan. 28 and that two candidates have asked for follow-up meetings; staff scheduled one-on-one meetings to review opportunities and operational issues. He told the board the two interested parties include one with catering experience and one with experience operating a public-facing food-service site.
Board members asked whether the selection would be handled under city purchasing rules; staff said the city's purchasing requirements would apply and that staff would return to the city after the candidate conversations to determine whether another RFP or a different procurement path was appropriate.
No formal selection or contract award occurred at the meeting; staff said they would update the board after meetings with the candidates and after consulting the city purchasing office.
