Norwalk Fire Department outlines station floor, door projects; Station 3 work complete

Norwalk fire administration reported progress on station renovations and a citywide plan to replace overhead apparatus doors at the Board of Fire Commissioners meeting.
Assistant Chief Michael Conti said final drawings for Station 1’s apparatus floor replacement are complete and he is meeting with contractors to finalize phasing and pricing. "We wanna keep both companies in house, and we wanna make sure that we can phase it properly," Conti said.
Conti said Station 3’s project has finished aside from a few loose ends and that Engine 3 was relocating back to quarters. He noted one outstanding major item is an overhead door that was back‑ordered; that door should arrive sooner than the others because it had been ordered earlier. Conti estimated deliveries of the remaining commercial Clopay doors at about three to four months, and said the city ordered doors for all stations as a capital item last year. "I think there's about 16 doors total," he said, and the department will replace one station at a time.
Conti also said the Station 1 floor work increased clearance at the front door by more than eight inches, improving apparatus access. Commissioners asked about delivery timing and were told replacement will proceed station by station once material arrives.
Ending: Conti said he will present finalized pricing and a phased schedule for commissioners’ approval once contractor bids are complete.
