Commission coordinates LCI training, campus partnerships and bike valet for Norwalk Earth Day

Christine (last name not specified) said she will lead an introductory League of American Bicyclists course as the local prerequisite for Julia Green's weekend LCI seminar in New Haven. Commissioners discussed logistics: the prerequisite session will be limited to about five participants, is free of charge, and requires participants to provide a helmet and working bicycle and sign a waiver; the classroom portion precedes an outdoor skills session and road ride.
The commission also confirmed plans to offer a free bike valet at the Earth Day event, solicit volunteers for two-hour shifts (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. event hours) and coordinate bike rides led by volunteer ride leaders. Commissioners said they will recruit volunteers from commissioners, community partners and existing volunteer databases and will work with city staff on supplies and logistics. Volunteers and staff noted access to some event equipment (a tent, bike repair tools) through community partners, and they discussed transportation and storage needs for longer poles and equipment currently kept at the Yankee Doodle Garage.
The commission plans outreach including printed brochures, safety courses led by a volunteer instructor (Sound Cyclists member Chaz Foster), and potential in-kind partnerships with campus vendors for Bike to Work Week giveaways.
