Parking authority to break Yankee Doodle project into phases; parking-deck bids under review

The phased approach follows the authority’s December rebid, which produced a single unacceptable bid. Staff said separating painting from metal and lighting work should attract more bidders and allow the authority to reissue a procurement for the painting work in time to advertise again before the March meeting. A staff estimate presented at the meeting projected painting would take about a week to 10 days; metalwork and lighting were described as more complex and likely to require roughly a month of design and procurement time after painting is complete.

Also on capital works, staff said a bid package for structural repairs, stairwell work and corridor upgrades at one of the authority’s parking decks was publicly advertised this month. Four bids were received at the bid opening earlier in the month and the authority will review them; staff said recommendations will be presented at the next meeting. If a contract proceeds, work could occur this summer.
