Aurora city staff updated council on April 12 about progress implementing the city’s strategic plan, describing a “strategy map,” 19 strategic initiatives derived from council brainstorming and a plan to track progress with a performance platform and public dashboards.
What staff presented
- Framework: Leticia Cowan, strategy and performance manager, reviewed the strategy map (vision, mission, core values and bedrock practices) and explained that council’s input last year — roughly 489 ideas — was analyzed and distilled into 19 initiatives mapped to five community‑focused outcomes: Well‑managed, Healthy, Safe, Economically strong and Connected & engaged.
- Initiative examples: Initiatives range from prioritizing funding to maintain infrastructure and adopting process improvements, to advancing long‑range water planning and improving parks, recreation and open spaces. Public safety and departmental strategic plans will be nested under the citywide framework.
- Performance system: Staff said the city will deploy Envisio to track progress and expects to launch public dashboards in 2026 after an internal year of performance reporting and measure development.
Why it matters: The strategic plan is the umbrella through which departmental master plans and Build Up Aurora will be coordinated; staff said the approach will help the city “plan the work and then work the plan.”
Timing and next steps
- Internal rollout across departments in 2025, development of performance measures and dashboards, and a public dashboard launch targeted for 2026.
