The Board of Estimate and Taxation approved a $76,824 transfer March 3 to Norwalk Recreation & Parks to cover expected shortfalls in part-time and temporary wages as the department prepares for its busy season.
Ken Hughes, speaking for Recreation & Parks, said the transfer is routine "housekeeping" to move money among wage and salary accounts and to prepare for seasonal hiring, which ramps up before July 1. "...we're moving some money around in our wages and salary part time and temporary accounts just to cover shortages we think we'll have, leading into July 1," Hughes said.
Members noted a summary-sheet mismatch in the meeting packet and were told the detailed account numbers and the correct total are on the page 13 detail sheet provided by Ken Hughes. After questions, the board approved the transfer by voice vote.
The transfer will let Recreation & Parks proceed with hiring seasonal personnel for programs and fields that begin in spring and early summer.
