Dublin City Schools reports 1,400-student growth since 2015–16; high school capacity pressures prompt redistricting plans

John Marshaussen, a Dublin City Schools staff member, summarized the district's latest enrollment projections and warned that growth is straining high-school capacity.

The projections show the district has added about 1,400 K–12 students since the 2015–16 school year and estimate that high-school enrollment will increase by more than 800 students at a future projected date, a rise the district says would exceed the combined capacities of its three high schools and is driving planned expansion at Dublin Sciota High School.

Why it matters: The district says the projections inform major decisions such as redrawing high-school boundaries and planning building expansions. Uneven growth among the three high schools — with Jerome High School growing faster while Kaufman and Sciota have slowed — is a key reason officials plan to use redistricting to balance enrollment.

Marshaussen told listeners the projections use multiple data sources, including live-birth rates, housing trends and building-permit information, and cautioned that projections are estimates: “Dublin City Schools continues to experience significant growth,” he said. He added that student movement and changing neighborhood dynamics can alter future counts and that the district tracks trends to keep planning flexible.

The district announced a planned expansion at Dublin Sciota High School as part of the response to the projected increase in high-school students and said a redistricting process will follow to redistribute students across the three high schools. Marshaussen emphasized that the timing and final boundaries will depend on forthcoming analysis and that projections guide, but do not determine, final decisions.
