City staff and regional aviation representatives told the Apple Valley City Council on April 10 to expect increased aircraft traffic over the city this summer while Minneapolismplois
nd Saint Paul International Airport completes runway work.
Charles (city/regional aviation representative) said the airport will perform construction on one of the parallel runways in two segments: April 14
nd continuing through May 23, and again from Aug. 18 through Sept. 26. During those periods, operable runways will be reduced and more arriving aircraft will be routed on the runway that aligns roughly with Galaxy Avenue, increasing overflights of Apple Valley.
City and regional staff said the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) will post project information and accept resident complaints via the MAC website; staff urged residents to submit complaints there, explaining that resident feedback helps the airport and airlines consider operational adjustments that may reduce noise impacts. Council members said Apple Valley has had a high volume of noise complaints in past months and encouraged residents to use the MAC complaint tools so officials can track impacts.
Ending: Staff said the runway work is necessary and that the airport expects no major parallel-runway construction on the two runways for at least 10 to 15 years afterward. Officials urged residents to use posted MAC channels to register concerns while construction proceeds.
