Board hears updates on assistant principal hire, student programs, arts shows and community partnerships

The Hamilton City School Board’s work session included multiple short presentations from principals and community partners highlighting curricular and extracurricular programs across the district.
The board welcomed Mrs. Cooper, introduced as the new assistant principal at the freshman campus. Superintendent and board members praised the district’s assistant principals during national Assistant Principal Week.
Principal Adrienne Sheer and staff from Fairwood Elementary presented two initiatives — the UFLI reading pilot (covered separately) and an after-school ELL club; students shared brief remarks about projects including a classroom “restaurant” diorama and spoke in English and Spanish about what they had learned.
Board members heard a series of community partnership highlights and student events presented or summarized by TV Hamilton and community partners: a Global Eats program at the high school (a culinary cultural program involving foods from about 12 countries); the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati touring production for elementary students; a Just a Pair of Shoes distribution at Highland Elementary that provided 120 new pairs of shoes; and student artwork being shown at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Presenters said these activities aim to increase student engagement, cultural exposure and community ties.
Brookwood Elementary described its “Grand Event,” a family visitor day that pairs guests with students for classroom activities; the PTO also launched a bundt cake fundraiser. Hamilton High School reported a future-planning/career day with local employers and scholarship information from the Hamilton Community Foundation; the foundation representatives described scholarships for graduating seniors and current college students and noted the foundation’s historic partnership with the district.
Board members and the superintendent praised staff and community partners for the range of programs and discussed using TV Hamilton streaming to highlight these activities to broader audiences.
