The Castle Rock Historic Preservation Board reviewed plans for Historic Preservation Month displays and outreach and agreed to pursue streetlight banners, updated placemats and a poster feature of the Masonic Lodge, and to staff a table at a downtown concert.
Staff member Brad Boland outlined options and costs. He said previously procured banners cost about $95 each with spring‑loaded hardware and that the town has roughly 200 suitable light poles. The board discussed placing six or seven banners in prominent downtown locations and noted that parks staff can help install them. “They did give me some pricing… about $95 a pop,” Boland said. He recommended starting planning in July to have materials ready for next May rather than this coming May.
Board members reviewed a draft poster that would spotlight the Masonic Lodge and discussed adjusting contrast and background to improve legibility for print. Boland said the posters print and ship within a week once finalized. The board also confirmed updated placemats that include new QR codes and discussed a children’s artwork component for the website or a digital bulletin board.
Regarding public events, Boland said the board is signed up to host a staffed table at a downtown concert; the event setup is expected to begin at 5 p.m. and music typically starts around 6 p.m. He noted the board has used a simple table setup in prior years and that staff can pack up when the concert begins. Board members volunteered to help distribute posters and placemats to local businesses; one member offered to help with distribution and others indicated the Masonic Lodge would appreciate receiving additional printed posters.
No formal vote was required on the outreach items; staff will circulate revised poster proofs and follow up on concert logistics and banner procurement timelines.
