Castle Rock council affirms staff recommended positions on pending state bills

The Castle Rock Town Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to affirm staff and the town’s legislative committee’s recommended positions on state legislation and to direct staff to communicate those positions to the town’s legislative delegation and Colorado Municipal League.
Kristen Reed, the town’s legislative liaison, told council staff had identified two bills introduced that week the town recommends opposing: one that would change the funding method for the statewide emergency communications radio system and another (House Bill 57 series) that staff said would significantly reduce transportation funding and grants the town relies on for road projects. Reed said the town is tracking roughly 85–90 bills this session.
Council member Brooks moved to affirm the positions and to direct staff to communicate them; the motion passed unanimously on roll call.
What’s next: staff will convey the council’s positions to the town’s legislative delegation, Colorado Municipal League and other stakeholders. Council members and staff said they would monitor other bills the town has opposed or supported; Reed noted some opposed bills had advanced and were awaiting the governor’s action, and one opposed construction‑defects bill had been postponed indefinitely.
Vote: Motion to affirm staff recommended positions and direct staff to communicate the positions — passed 7–0.
