On April 8 the Broomfield City Council approved two ordinances on second and final reading that change the city’s marijuana code. The first ordinance (2,266) makes permanent a local prohibition on marijuana cultivation and product manufacturing uses that previously had a time-limited ban; the second ordinance (2,267) amends the municipal licensing code to permit retail marijuana stores to sell prepackaged non-marijuana food and beverages consistent with state law.
Planning Manager Brandon Rowe told council the earlier prohibition had been time-limited and that the council had adopted a temporary moratorium on cultivation and manufacturing at the March 25 meeting to avoid a gap. Staff said no cultivation or manufacturing inquiries occurred during the short lapse. The second ordinance implements a state change that allows a portion of retail marijuana sales to be non-infused consumables; the local change simply permits local licensees to sell prepackaged food and drink consistent with state regulation.
Council members asked clarifying questions about enforcement and whether any businesses began cultivation or product manufacturing during the moratorium lapse; staff confirmed no such activity was reported. Both ordinances passed unanimously on second reading.
