Safe Routes plan in public input; Bike to School Day and other May events promoted

Staff asked committee members to share the survey link and put pins on the map to help the consultant and city prioritize investments.
Staff announced Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 7; the city has a donation of 1,000 free kids’ meals (from Raising Cane’s, as referenced in the meeting) to distribute to students who ride to school. Bike to Work Day was noted for May 16 and National Bike Month events such as Square to Square and a Bicycle Friendly Business boot camp were highlighted. Staff encouraged volunteers for energizer stations, breakfast stations and other event roles. A Vulnerable Road User Summit on June 3 was also mentioned.
Committee members discussed outreach channels and suggested linking the project page from the city’s SpeakUp platform to broaden participation. Staff said the Safe Routes project page is a temporary story‑map during planning but that the permanent Bike to School landing page will remain on the city website.
Separately, staff proposed a committee field trip — an on‑bike or e‑scooter tour of West Fayetteville infrastructure and crossings — proposed for May 14. The proposed route would cover several miles with stops to discuss crossing treatments, traffic calming and recent improvements; staff said an agenda and route would be circulated in the coming weeks.
