Councilmember Moore asked to table an ordinance that would enact Fayetteville Code section 120.03, a proposed disclosure requirement for fees and costs associated with leased residential properties. Moore said recent conversations and questions from stakeholders warranted additional meetings and time for possible amendments to reduce burdens on property owners while addressing renter concerns; she moved to table the ordinance to the council’s first May meeting on May 6. Councilmember Stafford seconded the motion to table. The city clerk called the roll and the motion to table carried by recorded vote, allowing staff and sponsors time to pursue additional stakeholder meetings before the item returns to council.
After the motion to table was made, one member of the public—Travis Ray Turner—spoke during the public‑comment period in support of tabling and raised concerns about potential unintended consequences, including a risk of facilitating price fixing through some disclosure steps. Turner identified himself as a former fifth‑generation real estate agent and a former vice president of the North Central Arkansas Landlords Association. Moore’s tabling request was consistent with staff advice to permit public remarks when an item is on the agenda even when the sponsor intends to table it.
