The Arrowhead UHS School District finance, legislation, building and grounds committee received a preliminary structural update on the high-school pool and agreed to refill the pool if the final structural report confirms it is safe.
Chairman Miller told the committee the structural engineering firm’s preliminary letter gave “comfort that the pool will be safe enough to fill.” The engineering firm had been asked for a written report; committee members were told a final draft was expected within two to three weeks from the end of spring break (the committee referenced March 31 as the start of that clock).
The committee asked facilities staff to track pool losses and costs closely. Committee discussion raised differing estimates of the pool’s current water-loss rate; a staff member said the refill frequency in normal condition should be about 4–7 days per 1,000-gallon loss, but current reads suggested losses every 1–2 days. Facilities staff said they would verify meter readings and report back.
The committee also asked for periodic reports on day-to-day costs (chemical and refill costs) and a quarterly report on areas of concern in the facility to identify whether problems are worsening.
Background and community context: public comment earlier in the meeting included a resident’s inspection-based estimate of needed pool repairs (the resident cited four valves priced at about $2,500 each). The resident urged that some repairs could be handled with donated labor and local contractors rather than large contract bids; the board did not adopt that proposal at the meeting.
Ending: The committee set a follow-up discussion for its April 28 meeting and said it would meet sooner if the final structural report identifies urgent repairs.
