Wenatchee awards $1.31 million long-line striping contract; work to begin before Apple Blossom

The City of Wenatchee awarded the annual long-line pavement marking contract to Specialized Pavement Markings LLC for $1,313,659.54 and authorized the city administrator to execute the contract documents.
Public Works Director Tom Rockholder presented the item on behalf of staff, explaining the city solicits bids each year for long-line striping (center lines, bike lanes and lane delineators) while the city’s street-maintenance crew handles crosswalks and other pavement markings. The city received two bids; the apparent low bidder was Specialized Pavement Markings LLC. If approved, Rockholder said the work is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of April 21 so striping is complete before Apple Blossom festivities.
Rockholder told the council the contract amount is slightly over budget but that a formal budget amendment is not required because adequate funds exist in the city’s street fund to cover the increase. Council members asked clarifying questions about bidder verification; staff said award is to the “apparent low bidder” pending standard checks for debarment and L&I standing.
A motion to award the construction contract for project SW25-3 to Specialized Pavement Markings LLC and authorize the city administrator to sign contract documents was made by Council Member Hornby and seconded by Council Member Roderstein. The motion carried.
