Katie Smith, who the board selected as its next superintendent, addressed the meeting after the vote. “I am absolutely incredibly grateful to the DePew Board of Education for their support and trust in me in allowing me to become your next superintendent,” she said, adding that she looked forward to working with “doctor Ravey to ensure a smooth transition.”
Smith described what stood out to her about the district during the selection process: an emphasis on empowering student leaders, a commitment to community service and a dedication to creating “inspiring and challenging learning environments and opportunities for all students.” She said she intends to meet students, families, administrators, faculty and staff in the coming weeks and months to learn more about the community and begin collaborating.
The board’s motion authorized the board president to sign the employment contract on the district’s behalf. The resolution recorded the appointment’s effective date as July 1, 2025. The meeting concluded with trustees and district representatives welcoming Smith and adjourning the session.
