District brings updated special‑education comprehensive plan and revised code of conduct to committee

District leaders presented an updated special‑education comprehensive plan and a redraft of the student code of conduct, both products of multi‑stakeholder review and steering‑committee work.

The special‑education plan narrows its improvement focus to two goals: reduce suspensions and expulsions for students with Individualized Education Programs and increase placement in the least‑restrictive environment. Staff said they convened parents, teachers and administrators for needs assessment and steering‑committee meetings; proposed strategies include proactive behavior supports, tailored consequence models that emphasize learning and re‑evaluation of placements when outcomes are not met.

On the code of conduct, staff said each building principal solicited faculty feedback and that the district rewrote parts of the document to make expectations and consequences clearer and more user‑friendly for families and administrators. The district intends to present the revised code to the regular board in April and request approval in May to allow time for adjustments and implementation before the next school year.

A staff presenter told the committee the special‑education plan and conduct rewrite are collaborative work and that the district will continue annual reviews rather than perform wholesale overhauls every year.
