Board approves administrative appointments, multiple recognitions and consent blocks; tables one resolution to May 8

At its April 10 business meeting the Montgomery County Board of Education took several unanimous votes during open session.
Administrative appointments: The board unanimously approved the superintendent’s recommended administrative appointments, including Alan C. Francois as deputy chief of financial oversight; Catherine Morales as associate superintendent for emergent multilingual learners (watching remotely); Angelina Filapova as director of the Department of Management and Budget; Mrs. Carla L. Lopez Arias as principal of John F. Kennedy High School; Katherine R. Ginther as principal of Wingate Elementary School; and Brooke L. Simon as principal of Lois P. Rockwell Elementary School. Each nomination was moved, seconded and approved by voice/raised‑hand vote.
Recognition resolutions: The board unanimously approved a series of proclamations and recognition resolutions including April as Month of the Military Child; May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month; May as Jewish American Heritage Month; May 7, 2025 as Bike to School Day; National Student Leadership Week (April 24–30); National Volunteer Week (April 20–26); Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5–9) and Teacher Appreciation Day (May 6); School Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week and School Lunch Hero Day (April 28–May 2/May 2); Pupil Personnel Worker Week (April 28–May 2); and Administrative Professionals Week (April 21–April 23) — all approved by unanimous voice/raised‑hand votes.
Consent and business items: The board approved consent items 6.1 through 6.9 in block by unanimous vote. The board approved items 10.1 and 10.2 in block and later moved to table a member‑introduced resolution (item 10.3) until the first board meeting in May; the motion to table carried unanimously. The board then voted to adjourn, again unanimously.
Ending: The meeting record shows all open‑session roll calls were unanimous among members present. Several items, including the grading and reporting regulation proposals and boundary/program studies, were presentations or discussion items and will return to the board for further action.
