Commissioners approve removal of 3-acre home site from PA 116 farmland at Love Road

The Barry County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution to partially terminate a Farmland and Open Space Preservation (PA 116) agreement so a 3-acre home site at 9975 Love Road in Bellevue can be removed and sold, while the remaining 77 acres stay preserved.
Jeff Keesler of Barry County Planning and Zoning said the whole parcel is an 80-acre farm with a home site; the applicants requested removal of about 3 acres containing the residence so the home can be sold. Keesler said the county expects continued preservation of the remaining acreage and that the property owners must repay forfeited taxes—"I believe it's seven years of the forfeited taxes," he said—if they remove land from PA 116.
Commissioners asked whether the house had been occupied; Keesler said it appeared to have been sitting empty after the original owners died and the land transferred to their sons. The board voted in favor after a motion by Commissioner Getty and support by Commissioner Smelker; the clerk recorded ayes from Hatfield, Bassett, Tunison, Smoker, Geddes and Jackson. The motion carried.
