Staff said the grant award is tied to the Spring Creek Solar Project in Johnstown Township. The county was eligible to apply under the program that provides funds to communities that have enacted solar ordinances and have projects underway. Administration reported the awarded amount as $297,500 and said the county must report use of the funds to the program (EGLE or the administering state agency) when a project start is reported; the grant pays 50% at project start and 50% on completion.
County staff suggested potential uses including sheriff’s department radios, body and car cameras, audiovisual upgrades for remote meetings, and planning and zoning software; staff indicated building improvements might be deferred and prioritized after communications and equipment upgrades.
Motion and next steps: Commissioner Tunis moved and Commissioner Smelker supported recommending acceptance of the grant award in the amount of $297,500 and approving the proposed use plan, authorizing County Administrator Eric Zuska to sign. The committee approved the recommendation by voice vote. Final acceptance and disbursement will follow county and state grant procedures.
