Yorktown asks RDC to split $154,925 Jackson Street drainage project; commissioners table request for cost verification

Chase Bruton, Yorktown town manager, asked the Delaware County Redevelopment Commission for capital assistance to fix a deteriorated ditch on Jackson Street that has created what he described as a “mosquito pond” in front of several homes.
Bruton said a drainage study by BF&S recommended a hybrid ditch repair (the third option in the consultant’s report) with engineering and bid documents still in preparation. He provided a current project total of $154,925 and said the town receives about $110,000 in ditch assessments annually and roughly $80,000 per year for stormwater—meaning the proposed repair would consume about a year’s stormwater revenue.
Bruton asked the commission to split the cost 50/50. Commissioners raised questions about whether the ditch remains assessed at the county level and asked the county surveyor to verify assessment status and whether sealed bids should be obtained for the work.
Commissioner Grant moved to table the request pending verification of exact costs and assessment status and directed staff to obtain the county surveyor’s input; the motion carried on roll call (Mister Cameron: yes; Commissioner Henry: yes; Commissioner Brand: yes; Greg Kelly: yes). The item will return to a future agenda after the requested information is provided.
