Maintenance superintendent Josh Hicks presented multiple quotes during the meeting. The board approved a $74,050 quote to replace deteriorated concrete at the sheriff’s department back entrance and new steps from the CAC parking lot to the main parking lot, plus a $12,450 quote to install hand railing and railing around a dock area. Commissioners also approved plumbing and HVAC quotes for the jail totaling approximately $3,620 and $1,150 respectively to repair a broken kitchen floor drain and a malfunctioning hallway HVAC unit.
For larger repairs, the board approved Oakstone’s $46,250 quote for jail repairs; commissioners voted to appropriate $46,250 by transferring certified but unappropriated monies from the general fund (the board directed transfer from reinvestment/general contingency as noted). The board also authorized a $32,500 Oakstone quote to clean and waterproof a section of roof at the juvenile detention center where leaks had been reported into the courtroom and gymnasium.
Commissioners discussed an unexpected $36,000 expense for elevator repairs that had already reduced the reinvestment fund balance; they decided to address additional general repairs on a project‑by‑project basis rather than appropriate a single larger sum at this time.
The board approved posting for seasonal maintenance positions at $15 per hour for approximately 40 hours per week over about 15 weeks. Commissioners said the positions would be posted and filled as projects demand.
In other business the board approved placing advertising for the county’s 2025 seal‑coat contract (22.492 miles of road) and authorized wastewater director Amanda Miller’s request for additional overtime related to recent flooding; both items passed on unanimous votes. All motions on procurement and appropriations in this segment carried in recorded votes.
Several approvals referenced existing budget lines and reinvestment funds; commissioners directed administrative staff to follow standard contracting procedures and to coordinate cost capture where services (such as jail operations) are billed through existing contracts with the city.
