Planning staff informed the commission that construction plans for the Dancing Oaks (truck stop) project at Progress Way and Hacks Cross Road show a revised driveway layout that differs from the right-in/right-out-only recommendation discussed by the commission earlier.
Staff said the city engineer judged that a strict right-in/right-out configuration would not be the safest option for truck circulation and presented an alternative: allow right-in and left-in but limit trucks to right-out only, so trucks cannot make left exits at Hacks Cross Road. Staff asked the commission to be aware of the change before the city engineer signs the plans.
Commissioners said neighborhood acceptance of the original right-in/right-out design was a major factor in their earlier support and expressed concern that changing that configuration without board-level discussion would undercut that commitment. Staff said the Board of Aldermen did not include the driveway configuration as a condition in its approval and that because the driveway issue had been resolved administratively at the planning level, the city engineer could proceed; staff said the developer may still alter final plans and that another truck-stop permit at a different location could reduce truck demand at the Dancing Oaks site.
No formal action was taken; staff requested the commission be aware of the city engineer’s recommendation prior to administrative sign-off.
