Council honors Callaway High girls basketball team after 6A state championship

Mayor Shokwe Antar Lumumba presented a proclamation that noted Coach Sutton’s record and the team’s winning streak that culminated in the state title. Coach Sutton and members of the team and coaching staff appeared in the chamber to receive the proclamation; several council members applauded the players’ achievements on the court and in the classroom.
Deputy mayoral and council remarks emphasized that many of the players are scholar-athletes and that several seniors had scholarship offers. Coach Sutton and team leaders highlighted academic accomplishments alongside athletic success. The council recognized the team with a ceremonial resolution and the mayor’s proclamation; the chamber took photographs and presented official citations.
