Council confirms Burbot Morrow Taylor to Jackson Public School board; unanimous vote

The Jackson City Council on March 18 confirmed the mayor’s nomination of Mrs. Burbot Morrow Taylor to fill the unexpired Ward 2 term on the Jackson Public School District Board.
Dr. Omari introduced the recommendation and said the administration had a productive meeting with Taylor about her experience and commitment to the city’s children. Taylor told the council she had worked in education for decades, including roles as a teacher, assistant principal and federal programs director. “Children are my passion. Education is my passion,” Taylor said.
Council members thanked Taylor for volunteering and noted her background in mathematics and administration. Several council members, including Councilwoman Clay and Councilman Banks, offered public praise for her experience. The council voted 7–0 to confirm Taylor.
Taylor said she would focus on preparing children for jobs that do not yet exist and called for renewed emphasis on civics instruction in schools, a request echoed by other council members during the discussion.
