Board approves intergovernmental agreement to transfer 22 East Broad Street to development authority for redevelopment

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to transfer county‑owned property at 22 East Broad Street (the County Administration Building) to the Coweta County Development Authority for proposed redevelopment and an attendant purchase‑and‑sale arrangement with a private developer.

County staff told the board both the administration building (22 East Broad) and the annex (37 Perry Street) have reached the end of their useful life for government operations, and staff recommended transferring the property to the development authority to pursue economic development uses through a negotiated sale and redevelopment. Administrator Fouts said the IGA would enable the development authority to enter a purchase‑and‑sale agreement with a private developer subject to contingencies such as pending local legislation, a proposed three‑year lease provision, and a stipulation tied to a separate property at 57 East Broad Street.

Staff said the development authority would consider the IGA and the associated purchase agreement at its upcoming meeting; the IGA approved by the board authorizes that transfer and delegation of the redevelopment process to the authority.

The board approved the IGA by motion and voice vote.
