Roswell Transit named New Mexico’s transit system of the year

City staff reported that the New Mexico Transit Association named Roswell Transit — and transit director Becky Hicks and her staff — the state’s transit system of the year.

City staff summarized recent Roswell Transit initiatives, including conversion of certain routes to demand‑response service after COVID, evacuation and free‑ride support during wildfire incidents, and a veterans‑transport program funded by local health partners that provided more than 8,000 free trips to veterans, the city said. The council joined staff in congratulating the transit team.

Roswell Transit leadership credited staff and drivers for operational flexibility and community service. The recognition was noted in the meeting without formal action required.
