Peter Nowak of the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey testified in support, saying the earlier statute (referred to in testimony as the “Ricky bill,” chapter 157, P.L. 2019) had implementation problems — retirees were not properly notified and municipalities failed to maintain records — and that the current bill aims to fix those shortcomings.
After public safety groups voiced support, the committee moved and released the bill as amended on a recorded vote.
