Buellton council adopts signage (not red curb) for library transit stop

The Buellton City Council on April 10 approved Resolution 25‑07 to restrict parking at the new library transit stop by signage instead of painting new red curbing. City staff told council the change responds to concerns from nearby residents and transit operators and keeps the curb unpainted while posting regulatory signs.

City Public Works Director Rose Hess told the council the alternatives reviewed included painting a red curb or relying on signage; staff recommended signage and said transit operators were comfortable using signs as long as they are placed to give drivers clear notice. Hess described the proposed restriction as operating Monday through Saturday roughly from 6:49 a.m. to about 7:15 p.m., with final times to be adjusted by operations. "The resolution and the staff report reflect this change, so it would not be red curbing," Hess said.

Council asked staff to align the posted signs with the existing red‑curb area around the corner fire hydrant and to reduce the length of the restricted area so the signage is consistent with existing street markings. Councilmember Sanchez requested the sign placement begin at the corner to minimize additional red‑curb length; staff agreed to place the south edge of the restriction at the south edge of the existing red curb where appropriate.

The council approved the resolution with the staff edit and an additional direction to correct a drafting error in the resolution text. The motion passed on roll call with Councilmember Sanchez, Councilmember Hornick and Vice Mayor Alicia Lewis voting aye; no no votes or abstentions were recorded in the roll call.
