The City Council introduced an ordinance to amend local rules governing food‑sales vehicles in downtown Bricktown, adding a restricted zone where selling food or beverages from vehicles between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. would be prohibited, creating a class A fine for violations and authorizing impoundment of noncompliant vehicles.
Clea Fisher from the city presented the proposed changes; Chief Bassey of the police department joined the briefing and said the department will give vendors advance notice of new restrictions before enforcement. “We’ll let them know in plenty of time before, we get to this point,” Chief Bassey said when asked about warnings before fines or impoundment.
Under the proposal, the city would define an additional restricted area in chapter 21 of the municipal code and provide a civil citation mechanism for food‑sales vehicles that violate the restriction. The draft also adds an impoundment provision to the city’s impoundment code, so that a food‑sales vehicle may be impounded for violations or for other reasons vehicles are impounded.
Council members voiced support for a measured rollout, asking police to work with vendors and to draft impoundment language that allows discretion for first offenses. The ordinance was introduced for consideration and will return for final hearing; council recorded a vote on introduction.
Ending: The council introduced the ordinance and directed staff to notify food‑sales vendors and to refine administrative and impoundment procedures before the final hearing.
