Park Hill accounting coordinator outlines role in audits, vendor payments

Susan Bartlett, accounting coordinator for Park Hill School District, said she oversees coding and recordkeeping that support payroll and accounts payable and helps buildings use the district's budgeting system.

Bartlett, who said she has worked with the district for seven years, told the meeting: "I'm the accounting coordinator for Park Hill, and I've been with the district for 7 years. I'm part of the business office, and so we do payroll, obviously, and, a big part of our department is accounts payable, where we make sure our vendors get paid." The remarks came during a staff introduction on the agenda.

The role includes ensuring transactions are coded in line with a state-issued accounting manual. "My part of that is making sure that everything gets coded correctly, because we have a manual that is put out by the state that we have to follow," Bartlett said. She also described preparing documentation for the district's independent annual audit, saying auditors "come in, and that's a big part of my job is, kinda getting together documents of them for them to make sure that we are following the rules." Bartlett added that the district follows accounting rules on top of state and federal rules.

A colleague who spoke in the meeting described Bartlett as a frequent point of contact for financial questions: "She's a go to. She has a wealth of knowledge for anything that has to do with district funds and ensuring that purchases, and money movement are coming from the right pot of money that is designated for those funds." The colleague said Bartlett helps buildings "understand at, a very easy level how to work within our budgeting system."

Bartlett said she enjoys seeing "the whole picture," especially how the financial pieces fit together across the district. The meeting did not record any formal actions, votes or changes to policy tied to the remarks.
