Council approves Eagle Scout storage shed proposal at Peabody High pending building-inspector review

Peabody City Council voted during its April 10 meeting to permit an Eagle Scout to install a storage shed near the practice field at Peabody High School, provided the project meets building-inspector and school requirements.
The project was presented by Eagle Scout candidate Louie Giuffre, who said the proposed shed would store heavy training gear used by the school's JROTC Raiders obstacle-course team. Giuffre said the team currently stores equipment on the third floor and hauls items to the field after school; the shed would provide closer, more secure storage and an area to support home competitions, including a small concession pop-up.
Councilors praised the plan as timely and appropriate for students. Councilor Rosignol called the project “fantastic” and asked about building size. Giuffre said precise dimensions were not on hand but that the shed is sited to avoid interfering with the team’s practice course and to limit lumber waste when materials are purchased. Architect Joe Bettencourt, in the audience, had prepared the plans.
Councilors and the presenter discussed fundraising and donated materials; Giuffre said local home-improvement stores and contacts who supported prior Eagle projects have expressed interest in donating lumber and supplies.
Because the high school will undergo renovations, councilors noted the shed should be movable if necessary. Councilor Welton moved to amend approval to make it conditional on consultation with the city building inspector to ensure setbacks and zoning requirements are met. The council then approved the project by voice vote.
The council did not record a roll-call tally for the vote. Councilors who spoke in support encouraged Giuffre to return for further assistance if needed.
The council’s action allows the Eagle Scout candidate to proceed with coordination among the council, Peabody Public Schools, and the building-inspector’s office; final construction and siting remain subject to the inspector’s guidance and any school-construction constraints.
