The Technology Corridor Development Authority approved a certificate of appropriateness to allow Extra Space Storage to replace two building signs on a property near Pellissippi State Community College at case 4-AD-25-TOS.
Staff told commissioners the proposal would remove two existing valley storage signs on the west and north sides of the building and replace them with two identical building signs; the existing address sign on the west side would be retained. Each proposed sign face is 33.46 square feet; the retained address sign is 4.9 square feet. Staff gave the total area for all three signs as 71.82 square feet, which the staff report said is within the 100-square-foot maximum allowed based on the building's linear frontage under the Knox County zoning ordinance.
Staff said the proposed signage would use individual channel lettering mounted directly to the building façade on an aluminum raceway painted to match the building, with acrylic sign faces in a matte finish and LED illumination. Staff recommended approval of a certificate of appropriateness with the condition that the signs meet all relevant requirements of the Knox County zoning ordinance and other applicable standards.
A motion to approve staff's recommendation was made and seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.
