Miami Gardens honors Powell Untouchable youth teams and Black History essay winners; Miami Carol City alumni receive proclamation

Vice Mayor Stevens invited members of the Miami Gardens Powell Untouchable youth flag‑football program to the dais and congratulated the teams for national success. "Our very own 10 and under young athletes from right here in Miami Gardens are recognized on the world stage," Stevens said, noting that the 10‑and‑under team is ranked No. 1 and that several other age divisions also placed nationally. Coach Kevin and staff said the 6‑U and 10‑U teams will travel to Houston on July 25 to compete in the Junior Olympics.
Councilwoman Linda Julian presented winners of the city’s Black History Month essay contest, part of an "Earn As You Learn" initiative. First‑place winner Clint John Jr., an eighth grader at Norland Middle School, read an essay on A. Philip Randolph; second‑place Adane Bealu and third‑place Jayla Williams also read essays focused on labor‑movement contributions by African Americans.
Councilwoman Katrina Wilson presented a proclamation recognizing the Miami Carol City Senior High School alumni association’s festival. Alumni leaders accepted the proclamation and described scholarship and mentoring work they perform for the school.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no policy votes resulted from the presentations. Council members praised the students, coaches and alumni for volunteerism and civic engagement.
