District reports progress on multiple construction projects; board schedules extra April meeting to accelerate hiring

Elliott provided photographic progress descriptions: interior classrooms, library circulation desk installation, cafeteria overhead inspections, science lab finishes, and a gym where crews will start laying wood floor. He said the district is working on baseball and softball facilities (dugouts and concession stands) with a target to complete Phase 1 by May and turf/finishing work following in Phase 2; he again noted a reliance on dry weather for field work.
On Danville High School work, Elliott said Waya Construction has a contract worth about $1,800,000 and the contractor aims to finish by August; the work includes a new concession/bathroom structure, a press box and new bleachers that will be made handicapped accessible on the west side. He said project footers and gravel work were underway and that crews planned to pour the slab the week following the report.
Elliott also described improvements at Lacey Springs—adding a clearer entrance and replacing long‑delayed windows—and said the community had been appreciative. He announced an upcoming Partners in Education new‑teachers breakfast set for July 29 at 7:30 a.m. at the Cook's Museum.
Board members and staff agreed to add another business meeting on April 24 at 4:30 p.m. to get ahead on hiring and personnel items so the district can post openings earlier and avoid crowding meetings in June. That scheduling decision was recorded in the meeting exchange.
