Cabell County Schools custodian praises school community during public comment

A staff member who identified himself as the second‑man custodian at a Cabell County Schools building said during the district's public comment period that he takes pride in his work and enjoys interacting with students and community members.

The custodian described routine duties and community recognition as reasons he enjoys the job. "I am the second man custodian, which is a step below the head custodian," he said. "I have covered every inch of this building at one time or another. I am proud of it." He added, "I just love it here."

He told meeting attendees that the building hosts training sessions and events. "In the summertime, we have teachers from other schools across the state [and] sometimes other states when they have training sessions here," he said, adding that visiting teachers often comment on how clean the building is. He also described friendly interactions with students outside the school: "It's nice to the kids recognize me outside of the building and think enough to say hello to me and be friendly with me."

The custodian offered a personal anecdote about a former band director who praised his work and a recent community moment at a local Fall Fest parade in Marblesville where members of the cheerleading squad and football team threw candy at him and his wife. "They beat me and my wife half to death with candy," he said, then added that the episode showed the community's affection: "A lot of other, they just like me."

The remarks were offered as a firsthand account of staff experience and community relations; no formal action, vote, or policy change was recorded in connection with the comments.
