Staff explained the scope of the request: (1) Conmigo is a Khan‑built AI tutor embedded in Khan Academy that supports guided questioning and step‑by‑step problem solving aligned to Florida standards; (2) Conmigo usage can be accessed via ClassLink on school or personal devices; and (3) the partnership would provide the district with de‑identified interaction analytics for research while requiring a separate MOU and a data‑privacy addendum ensuring student data are protected and hosted in the United States.
Board members asked how student interactions are stored and who can view them; staff said teachers and district analytics teams can access usage history, and researchers would receive de‑identified data for analysis under the MOU. Questions about the number of student “chats” were answered: pilot classes averaged between roughly six and 14 Conmigo chat interactions per student depending on the site, a measure staff said correlates to student engagement and formative practice. Staff also described use cases for SAT, AP and Florida standards support.
Because the Lassner Center invited Flagler to the grant‑funded program based on the earlier local pilot, staff characterized the MOU as time‑sensitive and asked the board to approve the MOU and data‑sharing terms at the district’s upcoming night meeting so the district can proceed. No district cost was identified for initial participation; staff said Conmigo/Khan and UF would supply access under the grant. Staff also said the district will control classroom implementation and teacher oversight.
The board heard the presentation and the MOU language will be presented for formal approval at the next regular board meeting.
